Start a product conversation by identifying the system, not by treating every liquid in an EV as the same fluid. This map explains general system roles, not FluidVanta product approvals.
Map the System Before Comparing Products
EV E-Drive Fluid, EV Gear Oil and EV Coolant are catalog categories, not interchangeable substitutes. An integrated drive unit and a separate gearbox may have different circuits; the actual design determines the requirement.
| System | Category to investigate | First identification step |
|---|---|---|
| Electric drive assembly | Equipment-specified e-drive or transmission fluid | Find the drive-unit identifier and service requirement. |
| Reduction gears or differential | Equipment-specified lubricant, which may be a gear oil | Identify the component and whether its oil circuit is separate. |
| Indirect thermal-management circuit | Coolant specified for that circuit | Identify the cooling loop and the required formulation from service information. |
Choose the Next Guide for the Decision
Use the detailed lubricant comparison when deciding what evidence separates an e-drive fluid from gear oil. For coolant procurement, use the climate guide after identifying the cooling circuit. Coolant must not be assumed suitable for direct battery-cell contact or immersion cooling.
